Well, I just experienced another breakup tonight. "Supernatural" is no longer my hot, shiny boyfriend. Sure, all was lovely for a while. But he quickly went from being my dream man into some greasy, fat bastard sitting in a trailer eating one of those Hungry Man frozen dinners. I dunno, I couldn't stay hooked on it like I did the X-Files. Ah, well. We tried. I'LL MISS YOU, WINCHESTERS. ♥

AND OF COURSE IT LOOKS LIKE FUCKING CBS IS GOING TO CANCEL NUMBERS AND I'M A BIG FAT FAILURE TURTLE WHO GOT INTO A SHOW DURING WHAT COULD BE ITS LAST SEASON. AIEE!!!

(I know the above sentence isn't grammatically correct, but fuck it.)

I'm starting to get more into gen fic, which is a BIG change for me, as the past ten years of my life have been slash-centric. I guess it's because that it's rare that I find a slash fic (in ANY fandom) where the character's sexuality isn't the focal point of the fic - or the character's life, for that matter. Why does a fic featuring a gay couple have to focus on ROMANCE and the RELATIONSHIP? I've read het or gen fics where yes, the couple was mentioned, but their romantic adventures were not the base of the entire story. I've found very few slash fics where that was the case. Which, okay, some of my fellow LGBT friends consider who they love/have sex with an intregal part of who they are, and that's fine and dandy.

Me? I'm hardly an activist on that front. For me, my sexual preference isn't any different from my taste in music, religious beliefs, etc. While I do have friends outside my tastes, I'm naturally going to gravitate towards people who have the same ideas and whatnot. However, there are some things I absolutely cannot stand in RL OR in fic:
overly angsty mopers, ridiculously liberal OR conservative folks (both are equally stupid and dangerous), whiny, flaming twinks...stuff like that.

(HUGE RANT: WTF is with overly twinking certain dudes in fics? For fuck's sake, I know it's supposed to be slash, but a gay man doesn't have a vagina. If I wanted overly-emotional, lovey-dovey shit in my story I would be reading het.)

That means I get annoyed when I feel that the author of a fic is basically Mary Sue-ing all the characters by inserting their (the author's) personal beliefs as the character's beliefs when 1) it's so laughably OOC, and 2) it's some sort of trait/characteristic that I can't stand. It's quite a selfish way to look at fic, now that I think about it. Does this put me in the wrong? As far as my personal world and fic preferences go, not at all. As far as the big picture? Probably yes. Buuuuuuuuuuuut...this is my caring face. -_____-

So yeah, it's hard to read slash fic without the "OMG WE'RE SO QUEER LET'S BE IN A PARAAAAAAAAAAAADE!" making me want to punch someone. Yes, there are a few fics that I've read where it's not totally based on TEH GAY~! but they are few and far inbetween.

Anyway, all I wanted to say is that I'm finding gen fic much better than slash fic (that I've read, plz to not accuse me of making generalizations) because the characters tend to be more well-rounded, the plot is better, the dialogue is believable, the author actually knows what they're writing about, and the overall writing is just really, really good.

It's been better in my experience, anyway, and since this is MY journal, my opinion totally rules.

Wow, that cut was not well-thought-out and all over the place, but I don't care. I just spent my entire night reading some most awesome Numb3rs fic instead of watching RAW and I am duly ashamed. OFF TO BED WITH MEEEEEEEE!

So I went to the Renaissance Faire with Lola and Alston yesterday. We had a lot of fun and made loads of perverted jokes, as we are wont to do. When Lola gets her pictures up (and when I can force her to upload mine to Photobucket on her high-speed internets!) I'll post them. Suffice to say, the weather was beautiful, incense filled the air and there were a lot of hot people in costumes. ♥ There was this one short little guy who was the spitting image of David Krumholtz, but from another angle he looked like my friend Clark so I thought he was cute but kind of hated him at the same time. ~_^ Also, hot chicks with hot bodies on stilts = Ashley getting a phantom boner, for srs.

Also also? I bought a most righteous pirate hat. The color of the feathers and trim match some lingerie that I already own. HUZZAH!

However, I'm sick today. :P I don't know if something was going around or what, but I woke up with a sore throat and a stuffy nose. Been coughing too, but I'm not too worried about it since it's a not a dry cough. Eh, whatev. I'd rather be congested than be nauseous, so I'm currently sipping some nasty-ass TheraFlu and hoping whatever bug I've managed to catch goes away soon. D:

Dear F-list,

While enjoying my three days of vacation I got into the habit of re-watching the same line-up of shows I used to watch when I was home sick from school ("In The Heat of the Night" FTW! Bubba Skinner is my babydaddy!) But apparently Mom is hip to what's new and got me watching reruns of a show called "Numb3rs". After watching an episode I realized I actually recognized one of the actors!

You guys, I had no idea that the guy who plays Charlie in "Numb3rs" is the same guy who played dorky-ass Michael in "Ten Things I Hate About You." That's one of the few teen movies I like! HOW IN THE HELL DID HE GO FROM HILARIOUS NERD INTO HOT MATHEMATICAL GENIUS?! Also, the shows is insane and, since I'm not the brightest crayon in the box, a little hard to follow at times, but math is freaking fascinating when it's presented this way (i.e., crime-solving). It's kind of hilarious because Mom totally has the hots for his older brother, Don, so now I have no reason to watch it alone. ♥

Y'all know I'm a total dork and have no idea of what's going on in the world. Therefore, I declare that you all suck at keeping me abreast of popular culture. Epic fail, my friends, epic fail. D:<

Love,
Ashley

Anyway, I turned in "An American Haunting" at Movie Gallery tonight (that movie sucked, guys - don't waste your time on it) and looked for "Numb3rs". Unfortunately for yours truly, they didn't carry that series, so I just signed up with Netflix. The first DVD from Season 1 should be arriving any day now. *rubs hands together evilly*

We all rock. ^_^

For everyone who offered comfort and/or hugs for my last post, thank you so much. What's happened in the past two weeks affected our whole county. I've put it under a cut so you don't have to read it if you don't want to.

On October 21, a young man named Brandon (20 years old) was killed in a car accident because he had been driving while intoxicated. I didn't know him personally, but he was a few years younger than I was so I'd heard the time quite a bit. By all accounts, he was a good guy, worked at one of the local lumber mills and raced his ATV at the racetrack.

Anyway, over the weekend his friends Chris and Jodie admitted to buying the beer that Brandon had been drinking before his crash. When Chris asked if Brandon needed to stay the night to sober up, Brandon said yes, but later said that he felt sober enough to drive. The other people who were drinking with them said that Brandon seemed like he had sobered up quite a bit.

According to their families (and to Brandon's family), Chris and Jodie felt that they were to blame for Brandon's death. So on Monday night, they drove up and down Highway 109. Chris called his girlfriend and told her goodbye. At about 10:30 PM (the same time Brandon had crashed), the security cameras at Unilin and Jordan Lumber recorded the car driving at a high speed, suddenly jerking, then running off of the road and into some trees. I've got friends at the police department and in the rescue squad, and it turns out the car was going 130 MPH and the jerking of the car was the result of them pulling up the emergency brake.

You guys...I went to the double funeral on Wednesday and it was the saddest thing I've ever witnessed. People were either still in shock or in tears. The families of the three boys were literally clinging to each other for support.

Brandon's death was definitely sad. Still, it's like Brandon's mother said: "Chris and Jodie didn't force him to drink." They also told him to stay with them, and he got up of his own accord and drove. I'm not trying to sound like a bitch here, but that's the truth of it. His death, while it could have been prevented, was still devastating. But I hate that they felt like they were personally accountable for Brandon's actions. The whole thing was just so wrong and unnecessary, and we've lost three wonderful young men.

I knew Jodie the best out of them - we weren't close friends, but he was only a year younger than me and we had the same social circles in high school. I feel horrible for their families. I drive by the site of the second crash every day on my way to work, and when I see the marks on the road, the broken tree branches, and the roadside memorial...it's hard. The whole thing is just hard to wrap our heads around. Going to a funeral for guys who are younger than me is something I never want to do again.

Last night was fun. The movie was okay in my estimation; its's one of those that doesn't really affect you when you watch it, but really messes with your head later when you're alone in your dark bedroom. ;-) Also, Emily and Montal called me so that we could exhchange "Happy Birthday!"s and so Montel could be retarded. Got the OMG BIRTHDAY PENCIL~! this morning during Sunday School. And I baked some apples and sweet potatoes with a honey and cider topping, so om nom nom.

AND NOW "WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE IS PLAYING. I miss GnR fics, guys.

I can't believe that I forgot to tell you guys this - there's a new guy at work named Travis. I'd seen him training with Jared because he's going to be a credit analyst, but the only thing that I really took notice of is the fact that he looks just like Scott Weiland during the early days of Velvet Revolver. Heroin chic, baby. ~_^

Anyway, on Thursday I went into the kitchen to retrieve the bowl I'd brought my lunch in and Travis was at the sink watering one his bamboo plant. We both said "hi" and I jokingly asked if he'd given his plant a name, and he said no but he was open to suggestions. I told him that he should name it Obadiah and he started laughing and said, "That's a great name, but I'm not Amish!" I told him that I meant Obadiah Stane from Iron Man and he was all, "OMG, that's awesome! What other comics do you read?" We talked a little bit about comics and other geek stuff, but we were both headed out the door to go home. Anyway, the next day he said "Good morning!" and we had lunch together. I HAVE A NEW DORKY BUDDY AND I AM THRILLED! ^_________^

Apparently I suck and didn't do my laundry last weekend, so I'm washing two huge piles tonight. WINRAR!

Aside from that, however, today wasn't bad at all. I spent most of it lazing around in my pajamas and watching reruns of "America's Next Top Model" and then starting the Tennessee vs. Alabama game. Tennessee lost, as we are wont to do. *sigh* What can I say? The Crimson Tide has a pretty good team this year. Also, the leaves are so pretty, you guys. I just have to look out of my back door and I'm greeted with a mural of reds, yellows, oranges and greens. I ♥ autumn.

Last but not least, I had Caribbean food tonight! It was so good! Curried venison, something made out of yams and coconut milk, a shrimp and rice dish...man, the list goes on. Lots of curry, which is A-okay with yours truly. \o/ Our guests were a couple who live on the island of Antigua as missionaries and they're trying to raise money and support to go back and continue their work. They're also trying to put together a team to go there next summer, and I'd love to go! So the whole evening was a lot of fun - people sharing stories, food, and working towards a common goal. Awww.

Holy crap, you guys - this PMS-fueled eating rampage I'm on has to stop! I've done quite well (at least I think so, anyway) on trying to slow down the inevitable diabetes with a healthy diet and exercise, but it's like the hormones hit and I eat all sorts of weird shit. D:

It was bound to be, what with Snoop Dogg as guest host and all. I love that bony, ugly bastard! I got to hear Kofi talk without that horrible fake Jamaican accent! <3 He sounded so...so...freaking cute! All Bostonian and shit! Man, I can't think perverted thoughts about him because he's so damn adorable. His face when Trips called him out ("Where's your accent? I thought you were Jamaican!") was priceless - it was like he was a toddler getting caught doing something he shouldn't have. *pauses* EEE! SO CUTE!

We all know that Randy Orton and Ted DiBiase are practically divorcing on-screen, leaving their son Cody Rhodes in limbo. Oh, the breakup is so painful to watch! It really is! However, they did have a tender moment during their match:

"This is going to hurt me more than it will hurt you, sweetheart'."

Anyway, those are the moments that had me flailing with glee, but the rest of the show was good as well. I'm totally blaming the hormones for my getting all misty-eyed over Cena's (potential) last match on RAW. D'aww, John, you've been there for five years - time for a break, yeah?

Also, I'm digging Jeff Hardy's new haircut, lack of stupid facial hair, new tattoo and wedding band. Maybe he's trying to make himself less "pretty" to all of the big burly men in prison? ;-) (I'm never going to let this one go, folks.) Seriously, though, I'm all for the clean-cut look right now. I've spent years and years lusting over tatted-up, greasy people and frankly, my sex drive needs a break. So. Jeff, you're cute. <3

WTF, estrogen? When did I turn into everyone's mother? :P

With that I go to bed! GOOD NIGHT!

The damn thing tried to come back inside, so I just stabbed and hacked away at it with a big butcher knife. Afterwards, I was standing amongst the remains of the felled beast and lo and behold, Kofi Kingston comes running up in tears asking (in his fake Jamaican accent, no less!) why I killed his pet. He was screaming "WHYYYY?!" but he wouldn't let me explain myself, and he also said that there would never be a chance for us to have a relationship after all that had happened.

Something tells me I need to watch what I eat late at night!

Also, Voldemort has proven himself to be a cold-blooded animal killer like yours truly!
